"A podcast is a buzzword to describe a very simple concept: an audio or video file available on the Internet for you to listen and or watch. A podcast can also refer to a series of these audio or video files." (What is a podcast?, 2010)

How many of you have downloaded a Hamish and Andy podcast to listen to on your way home from work? Started to learn a different language, listened to lectures, sermons the list goes on. I have only just recently started using podcasts even though they have been around for many years now. I was on a 14 hour plane flight from BNE to LAX and even though the in flight entertainment was fantastic, I found myself listening to a Spanish podcast and learnt some Spanish to pass the time. As I found out, podcasts are a great way to entertain yourself.
To create a podcast there are three main steps you have to follow.
1. Recording- with the correct software and a microphone.
2. Publishing- once completed your episode, people will be able to subscribe to your website and listen to your podcast
3. Air- the more and more popular your podcast becomes, the greater your income and rating becomes.

Although people use podcasts as entertainment, they can also be used as an educational purpose. Teachers and students have to ability to create their own podcast from this website: www.mypodcast.com/create . It can be used as an introductory tool, an assessment piece or just helping students become accustomed to the world wide web and all the possibilities it offers.

Overall I think this is a great tool and will be using it in my own classroom when I am a teacher.
Ta Elise :)
